Germany is Europe’s largest market for garden products. Worth over €10 billion, it accounts for almost 30% of all the garden products sold in the EU. With over 20 million gardens, Germany, along with France, is a leading market for exports of garden products from the UK. Spoga+gafa is the largest international trade show for the garden and leisure sector. Spoga and gafa represent the two sides of the garden sector. Spoga is an annual show and features leisure products: furniture, barbecues and outdoor activities. Gafa is biennial, focussing on all functional aspects of gardening: tools, equipment, ponds, watering, containers, accessories, plant care etc. The combined spoga+gafa is once again being held from 5-7 September and will occupy all 11 halls in the Cologne trade fair complex. The last edition of the combined spoga+gafa in 2008 attracted 41,500 visitors, with 55% of visitors coming from outside Germany. There were 2,155 exhibiting companies from 57 countries occupying an area of around 290,000m2. Trade visitors to spoga+gafa include buyers from garden centres, DIY stores, agricultural co-ops/country stores, supermarkets, department stores, mail-order and internet sales companies, and specialists such as garden furniture stores, garden machinery dealers etc. Many distributors and wholesalers also visit the event and some exhibit there. Spoga+gafa is truly international. Apart from a huge German audience, the show is the main event for leading buyers from across central Europe, Benelux and Scandinavia. Recently, increasing numbers from France, the Mediterranean countries and Eastern Europe/Russia have visited the show. In 2010, over 22,000 visitors are expected to be from outside Germany and these will also include significant numbers from North America, the Far East, Australasia and elsewhere. Key UK retailers also visit the show. For detailed information about exhibiting at spoga+gafa 2010 as part of the Gardenex British group, UKTI funding and all registration forms, click here.
